Tibetan Lu Jong Workshop

Saturday June 24 | 1 - 3:30PM

Many people are unaware of the Tibetan yoga tradition. Buddhist practices are thought of as being static on a cushion. In great contrast, the monks that meditated in the mountains of Tibet, far from society, found it necessary to develop practices to keep their bodies in top condition, their immune systems strong, and their healing abilities well-tuned.

Lu Jong is an ancient Tibetan movement practice from the Tantrayana Buddhist tradition developed for the purpose of self-healing. Simple movements are combined with rhythmic breathing to stimulate and train the subtle body channels to be more open thus facilitating the flow of blood, breath, and consciousness.

Lu Jong pays attention to the health and flexibility of the the spine, vitality of internal organs, mobility of the joints, and restores balance to the body constituents, or humors, to encourage the flow of internal energy.

This practice is in the lineage of Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche who gathered and modified the healing movements to be appropriate for people of all ages and abilities.

In this workshop both theory and practice are included.

Students will learn:

  •  The five elements movements (for opening the spine and general balancing)
  • The five body parts movements (for the musculoskeletal system)
  • The five vital organ movements (for improving function of the kidneys, heart, lungs, spleen, and liver)
  • How to work with the breath and the subtle body
  • Principles of Tibetan medicine and the five elements world view
  • Why it is important to nurture the subtle body and release blockages
